海有多深?

Pipkin was a very small penguin
who was always asking very big questions.
Pipkin 是一隻很小的企鵝, 經常問非常大的問題

How big was a dinosaur?
恐龍有多大?

Does chocolate grow on trees?
朱古力會長在樹上嗎?

What makes snow fall from the sky?
是什麼令雪從天而降?

But the thing he wanted to know most of all was...
但他最想知道的事情是

"How deep is the sea?"
海有多深?

"Penguins are really good swimmers." said his Mama.
"Why don't you go and have a look?"
企鵝是非常出色的泳手, 他媽媽說
你為何不去看看?

Pipkin took a very deep breath and dived into the sea.
Pipkin 深深吸一口氣, 潛入海中

He swam down a little way into the sparking blue and found a seal catching silver fish.
他向下游一點去到閃亮的藍色海底, 和遇到一隻海獅在捉銀色的魚

"Excuse Me." said Pipkin.
"How deep is the sea?"
不好意思, Pipkin問
海有多深?

"Deep enough to hold more fish than I could ever eat." said the seal.
"Would you like to stay for lunch?"
深至足夠有比我任何時候都可以食的魚更多, 海獅說
你會留下和我一同午餐嗎?

"Sorry, I can't stop now." said Pipkin.
"I'm off to find the bottom of the sea."
抱歉, 我不能現在停下來, Pipkin說
我要去搵海底

He swam down a little further into the deepening blue and found the biggest creature he'd ever seen singing a rumbly song.
他再游深一點, 去到深藍的海, 和遇上他見過最大的生物, 在唱著他從未聽過的隆隆歌聲

"Excuse Me." said Pipkin.
"How deep is the sea?"
不好意思, Pipkin問
海有多深?

"Deeper than a big blue whale like ME had ever been." said the creature.
"Would you like to stay and sing to my blue whale friends across the sea?"
比如我一樣大的大藍鯨都沒有去過更深, 那生物說,
你會留下來, 和我一起唱歌給海另一邊的藍鯨朋友嗎

"Sorry, I can't stop now." said Pipkin.
"I'm off to find the bottom of the sea."
抱歉, 我不能現在停下來, Pipkin說
我要去搵海底

Pipkin seam down a little further into the darkening blue, and found a salty sea dog in a yellow submarine.
Pipkin 再向下游深一點去到更深藍的海, 和遇到老水手在黃色潛水艇

"Excuse Me." said Pipkin.
"How deep is the sea?"
不好意思, Pipkin問
海有多深?

"Deep enough to need a submarine to reach the very bottom." said the salty sea dog. "I'm going there now. WOuld you like to join me?"
深到要潛水艇去抵達更深的地方, 老水手說,
我現在要去了, 你想和我一起嗎?

"Yes please." said Pipkin.
好的, 請. Pipkin說

The submarine took them down...

... and down ....

... and down ...

... to where the sea turned night-black and there was no one else around.
潛水艇帶他們向下
向下
向下
去到海轉成漆黑如晚上, 而無任何東西在他們附近

Then, one by one,
twinkling lights began to appear.
然後, 一個接一個
閃爍的光開始出現

All kinds of wonderful, lit-up creatures
were swimming around in the dark.
各種精彩, 閃亮的生物
在黑暗中游來游去

"Excuse Me." said Pipkin.
"How deep is the sea?"
不好意思, Pipkin問
海有多深?

"Deep enough to have whole mountains at the bottom." said one of the twinkly creatures. "Look."
深得足夠把整座山脈在海底, 其中一個閃亮的生物說,
看!!

         
And sure enough, just below, was a range of towering mountains...
果然, 就在下方, 是一群巍峨的群山......

"Is this the very deepest part?" asked Pipkin.
這就是最深的部份? Pipkin問

"Not quite." said the twinkly creature, and it pointed to a valley. "Down there is the very deepest part of the sea."
不完全是, 閃亮的生物說, 而且指出一個山谷, 那邊的海才是海的最深部份

So the yellow submarine took them into the valley.
於是, 黃色潛水艇帶他們到山谷

It was very deep

and very dark

and very,

very

quiet.

這裡非常深
而且非常黑
以及非常
非常
安靜

Flump when the submarine as it landed on the bottom.
"FLUMP" 一聲, 當潛水艇降落到底

"I wonder whether anything lives all the way down here?" whispered Pipkin.
我好奇有沒有其他東西住在這裡, Pipkin低聲說著

They peered into the darkness, but nothing came to say hello.
So they sat for awhile at the bottom of the sea with miles and miles of water above them.
他們凝望著黑暗, 但沒有東西來打招呼, 所以他們在有英里, 英黑以下的海底坐一會

"Ready to go home?" asked the salty sea don.
"Yes please." said Pipkin.
準備好要回家了嗎? 老水手問
是的, 請, Pipkin 回答

The yellow submarine took them all the way back up to the top of the sea.
黃色潛水艇帶他回回到海面

Pipkin said to his Mama:

"The sea is very VERY deep, it's deep enough to hold more fish than a seal can ever eat,
and deeper than a big blue whale has every been,
and deep enough to have whole mountains at the bottom,
and lots of twinkly creatures hardly anyone's ever seen."

Pipkin 對他媽媽說
海是非常非常深, 深得有足比海獅能吃的更多的魚
並且比大藍鯨能到過的更大
和深得可放在整個山脈
還有許多閃亮的生物幾乎沒有人看過

"And it's deep enough for a very small penguins to have very big adventures," said his Mama as she rubbed him dry.
而且, 他探得足夠給一個小企鵝有一個大冒險, 他媽媽說, 並輕輕把他抺乾

"I'm proud of you, my little Pip"
